Kaiji Episode 4: 30 Rocks from the Scum Posted on by Eddie

kaijiep4_1.gif
I pick the best screenshots so you don’t have to.

Episode continues from where it left off, leaving our friend Kaiji and his two scumbag companions up shit avenue without a bus ticket. Things are looking grim for the three, with only five stars between them and approximately no cards.

kaijiep4_2.gif
However, Kaiji manages to come up with another interesting idea. It seems that if he wasn’t a loser he’d be a good chess player. Hint: There are no scissors or paper in that pile of cards he is holding. The plan seems foolproof, but Kaiji has a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach (and we know how those usually end up).

A Bit of Noise -Jared and the Hats Posted on by Allen

So, I found a bit of noise that some of you might enjoy. Personally I fancy the record and in my opinion the tracks to pay attention to would have to be 2, 6, 8, and 10. The fact that these are all even numbers is purely coincidence. Oh and finding this oddity in a physical CD format has proven quite the challenge, so if your looking to buy something more substantial then a few mp3’s it would be best not to get your hopes up. Enjoy!

Guitar Hero III Sucks More Than My Review Of It Posted on by Eddie

Well, perhaps. However, it doesn’t even compare to any of its predecessors. Apparently our friends at Activision have dropped the ball.

gh3drummer.gif
New GH3 Drummer

First off, the graphics. Not much to say here, though I don’t like the star power meter, I find it harder to see my Star Power while playing. It seems that they made the notes really bright and annoying, and removed any and all contrast from the rest of the interface so I can’t see anything. Additionally, though the character graphics are spiffed up a bit for the newer generation systems, they’re nothing special. I will say that the drummer is a machine. Machine, not in that he has high endurance, but his movements resemble that of Johnny 5 from Short Circuit. Also, despite his huge chin, the vocalist isn’t too good at lip synching either.

gh3sound.gif
Audiophile-level Sound Quality

Looks aside, the real flaws lie within the gameplay itself. While there isn’t much different with the way songs are played from the previous version, the songs themselves are shitty. First off, pretty much every song sounds the same, plays the same, looks the same. I couldn’t tell the difference between any of the European Invasion songs, as well as half of the rest of them. Additionally, the songs are transcribed poorly. In Guitar Hero 2 you had a great tracklist, with unique songs that were fun to play. In this, the songs are boring repetitive two or three note chords with little variation. There are only a few notable exceptions to this, including the songs by Muse, Eric Johnson, Metallica and Dragonforce. Even the Tenacious D song was not any fun to play.

Sound wise, this game is terrible. At first, I thought it was just the settings on the TV or something, but nope. Probably a combination between an attempt to achieve a realistic “Live Sound” and the fact that the cover band used for the game was actually fronted by the 13 year old son of one of the developers, trying to “make it big” after taking approximately three guitar lessons. Instead, all I can hear is some indecipherable trebly noise mixed with the same yelling crowd looping over and over.

If you are among the unlucky saps who bought the game already, here is a suggestion: Keep the Les Paul, because admittedly, it’s worth more than the game, and you can use it for Rockband/GH2 (maybe). Tape the GH3 disc to your ass and use it to make playdoh shit cylinders, because that is all that is useful for.

Moyashimon - Sake Sadness Posted on by Eddie

In case anyone was wondering, Sake Sadness isn’t really the title of the second episode of the anime. I just think that it is more accurate than Three Billion Yen Aggie Life. Well, the real title might be more precise now that I think of it, but this is about significant digits.

Anyway, Sawaki helps to find out the source of these evil lactobacillus fructivorans, or in common terms, “sake-spoiling bacteria.”

I would continue a plot synopsis but then I realize that most people aren’t here for my spoiler, but rather the episode itself. Anyway, there are much better synopses already available (and with more screenshots too!).

I am detecting heavy Yakitate!! Japan vibes from this show.

Bamboo Blade 3: The Wrath of Khan Posted on by Eddie

The call came from inside the house!

As the day of the competition draws neigh the members of the club are assigned their colors. Tama is RED, Kirino is YELLOW, Saya is BLUE, and Miya is PINK. However we find out that perhaps Miya would be more accurately portrayed in a darker hue.

Moyashimon - Microbial Madness Posted on by Eddie

Moyashimon, or “Tales of Agriculture” is a new anime about Tadayasu Sawaki, a guy who can see microbes with his unaided eye. Not only does he see them without the use of a microscope, he can also see them talk and interact with each other (not entirely unlike those little pocket monster devils).

Anyway, this anime seems like it will be pretty amazing, with a live action intro and various wacky hyjinks that you animu lovers are bound to enjoy.

The live action OP is pretty badass even if you’re like me and just skip to the 1:30 point.

Now I’ve Seen Everything Posted on by Eddie

Came across this little tidbit today. I will just say that this little short chapter, The Female Fridge - 1, blew my mind. It’s only the first, though I can only imagine what lies within the following chapters. Let me also warn you that it is kind of NWS.

Antec Black Notebook Cooler Posted on by Allen
How can you prevent this?!?!
How can you prevent this?!?!

Intro

The product being evaluated today is the Black Notebook Cooler manufactured by Antec. Before we start off with the review a brief overview of the company that manufactures the product is in order. The company Antec is was founded in 1986 and is based in Fremont, California. The company manufactures products such power supplies, cooling fans, computer cases and lighting accessories. Needless to say, Antec is a well established vendor of computer paraphernalia in the industry. This claim is furthermore reinforced by the fact that it has vendors in over 25 different countries.

The notebook this cooler is being used on, (actually under) is an Acer Aspire 5672. The 5672 has an Intel Core Duo T2300, (1.66 Ghz), a ATI Mobility Radeon X1600, Bluetooth 2.0, 802.11 a/b/g, and a 120 GB HD. With all that power under the hood it’s easy to understand why this particular model is infamous for having heat issues. For some this heat issue has been so irritating that physical modifications to the laptops motherboard were necessary. Seeking an easier solution to the issue of excessive heat, I set out in search of a notebook cooler that would effectively keep the temps of my notebook down and the tilt cool to the touch.

Ultimately I settled on the Antec notebook cooler. Among the many reasons I chose this particular product a few of them were due to its aluminum surface, its low height, the product was relatively low in cost, and because it had few frills, (personally I have no need for a card reader or any extra usb slots).
